When I first heard about the World Challenge expedition to Nepal in Summer 2024, I knew I had to be part of it. The idea of exploring a new culture and contributing to meaningful work immediately appealed to me, so I committed to raising the necessary funds. I worked tirelessly, offering household help to neighbors and relatives, organizing a bake sale at my dad’s office, selling unwanted clothes, and even sacrificing my birthday funds. The support I received from everyone around me made it possible for me to embark on this life-changing journey.

As the summer approached, our group prepared for the adventure ahead. After getting our immunizations and packing our essentials, we excitedly set off for Kathmandu. From the moment we arrived, the experience was exhilarating. Our hostel in Thamel, the bustling heart of Kathmandu, became our home for the next 16 days. Navigating the crowded streets, exploring Durbar Square—a UNESCO World Heritage site—and immersing ourselves in the vibrant culture was a dream come true.

One of the most memorable parts of the trip was our four-day trek through the Helambu region of the Himalayas. The trek was physically and mentally challenging, with long days of hiking on steep mountain paths in monsoon rains. There were moments when it was difficult to tell whether the wetness on our faces was from rain, sweat, or tears. Despite the challenges, the breathtaking views and the warm hospitality of the Tamang and Sherpa communities made every step worthwhile. Staying in basic homestays with cold showers and squat toilets taught us resilience and gratitude, and our expedition leader, Gopal, provided invaluable guidance and encouragement.

After the trek, we participated in a community project at Sanskriti Farms and Research Centre. The farm is dedicated to sustainable agriculture and community empowerment, and our role was to plant vegetation and learn about the innovative practices being used to tackle food, water, and energy challenges in Nepal. This experience deepened my understanding of sustainability and showed me the significant impact small communities can have on creating a better future.

My time in Nepal was nothing short of transformative. From the serene temples to the rich cultural heritage, every moment left a lasting impression on me. The trip inspired a newfound appreciation for the beauty and diversity of our world and fueled my desire to continue exploring and making a difference wherever I can.

I am now delighted to support the SHEINSPIRES EMPOWER50K GIRLS INITIATIVE and look forward to the next steps in this exciting journey. I am equally thrilled to have Gulnaz Brennan as my mentor for this initiative, and I can’t wait to see where this journey will take me next.
